1913-1932 Original Church Our Lady of Sorrows Church had its beginning as a small mission founded in the Fall of 1913 as an adjunct to St. Mary's Church and intended for worship by Spanish-speaking residents of Victoria, Texas. The mission was originally named Mission Dolores.
1932-1952 Second Church
The year 1919 stands boldly and proudly out in history as the one in which Mission Dolores became a regular parish and the year in which the name was officially changed to Our Lady of Sorrows. The church was partially destroyed by on February 22, 1930. The church was rebuilt, enlarged and rededicated that same year.
1952-1999 Third Church By 1950 Our Lady of Sorrows Church had grown to the extent that the new pastor was confronted with the choice of enlarging the old building or constructing a new one. Choosing the latter, a new brick building of Spanish Renaissance architecture was built in 1952. This church of 1500+ registered families received extensive flood damage in October 1998. As repairs were in progress, extensive termite damage was discovered. The building was declared unsafe and eventually closed to the public. Again, Our Lady of Sorrows Church has experienced growth and is confronted with the decision to rebuild. This building was demolished in June 1999.
